Khumbu area is a revered and exotic destination in the Himalayas for every mountain lover. The Khumbu is famous for it's spectacular mountain peaks and the loyal and friendly inhabitants. majority of the inhabitants here are the Sherpas. The Everest region (Khumbu) is one of the most popular destinations for travellers, trekkers and explorers. Scenic beauty,unique Sherpa culture,diversities of flora and fauna is the glory of the region. Majority of the people here practise tibetan buddhism and believe that the land is sacred as the Guru Rimpoche and many other buddhist saints are said to have resided and meditated in many different places in the region. The rocky mountain called Khumbi Yulha which towers above Khumjung village is believed to be the protector deity of the whole Khumbu region and worshipped twice a year by locals for happiness, prosperity and long life of all sentient beings.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality with total population of 8,989 (2073 data)residents and area of 1539.11 km2 lies in Solukhumbu district As per new federal division.The municipality consist of 5 wards while its administration center of this Gaunpalika is in Chaurikharka.

Ward 4 of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, covers most of the mountain ranges within the Khumbu area including highest peak Mt. Everest and most of the area of Sagarmatha National Park (SNP). SNP is the first UNESCO world heritage site in Nepal with an area of 114,800 ha,that covers the high mountain ranges with deeply incised valleys and glaciers. With over 25 peaks out of which seven are above 7,000 m high (UNESCO, 2016), it’s an outstanding natural beauty. Additionally, this region contains numerous lakes including the Gokyo Lake ,Thonak Tsho, Gyazumpa Tsho, Ngozumpa Tsho and Longbanga Tsho. Also, lakes such as Imja Tsho,Chola Cho and many glacial lakes.
Ward 4 has not only a great landscape but also contains several species of flora and fauna that have been categorized into 8 different types of ecosystems and vegetations.Khumbu contains 33 species of mammals, 208 species of birds and 13 species of reptiles/amphibians and has over 1000 species of flora.The area is home of some rare animal species including the Snow leopard, Musk deer, Red panda, Impeyan Pheasant, Lammergiers, Bearded vulture, Snow cock and red and Yellow-Billed Chough. Since 69 percent of the land is above 5000 m, the flora is spread over lower altitudes and dominated by Black junipers, Sikkim willow, several creepers and grasses. Above 5000 m, the land is barren and is covered with snow.
